Brazilians are the ones who spend the most time a day on their mobile phones, according to a survey | Technology



Users in Brazil spent an average of 5.4 hours a day on mobile in 2021 and topped this ranking for the second year, now connected to users in Indonesia. The information was revealed in a report by the AppAnnie platform, which only considers Android phones.

According to the survey, the number of daily hours Brazilians spend on their mobile phones on average has increased in recent years: The country went from 4.1 hours per day in 2019 to 5.2 hours per day in 2020 and reached 5.4 hours per day in 2021.

Of the 17 countries where users spend the most time per day on their mobile phones, only Argentina and China reduced the number of hours between 2020 and 2021.

The report points out that In total, users in Brazil spent 193.3 billion hours on mobile in 2021. Due to differences in the number of users, the country ranks 4th in absolute terms. In China, which is at the forefront of this benchmark, users spent 1.1 trillion hours on mobile.

TikTok is growing in usage time

The second social application on which Brazilians spend more time each month is TikTok, which grew and overtook Instagram and Facebook. The platform went from 14 hours per month per user in 2020 to 20.2 hours per month per user in 2021.

In this ranking, the figures also only take into account Android phones and exclude apps aimed at businesses.

TikTok loses to WhatsApp, which remains the user time leader among social apps. Users in Brazil spend an average of 29.2 hours per month on the messaging app. There was a decrease from 2020, when users nationwide spent an average of 30.2 hours per month on the service.

WhatsApp was also named the app most used by Brazilians throughout the day in the “Panorama” survey, conducted in December by the Mobile Time site and the research firm Opinion Box.

The AppAnnie report also states that: TikTok was the most downloaded app in Brazil in 2021. This is followed by the Shopee shopping app, the Kwai social networks, Instagram and WhatsApp.

The list of apps with monthly active users in Brazil in 2021, i.e. who actually used the apps, is led by WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, all managed by Meta. In this criterion, TikTok appears in 5th place.
