Future students of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles will be able to enroll in a new program in the fall of 2023. The Electrical Engineering Technology: Automation and Control training will be offered at the Gaspé campus.
A color given to renewable energies
This program aims to train electrical engineering technologists capable of installing, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, systems and industrial robots. “ Technologists will acquire the required skills while developing their knowledge of renewable energies. This is the color we wanted to give to the training, because we already had links, resources and equipment, for example in the wind sector says Mr. Jean Gagné, director of studies at the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles.
Indeed, the college center for technology transfer (CCTT) Nergica provides significant support in the implementation of the program. In particular, students will be able to access the exceptional infrastructures of the CCTT as well as the research site in Rivière-au-Renard. The facilities of the Center québécois de formation en maintenance d’éoliennes (CQFME) will also serve as full-scale laboratories.
Job prospects in different sectors
Beyond the wind power sector, technologists will be involved in different types of‘industries. Whether in aluminum smelters, hydroelectric power plants, hospitals, research centers, manufacturing industries and the‘food and more, the possibilities of places to‘jobs are many. With this new program, the Cégep aims to retain and‘labor attraction‘qualified work in Gaspésie. Mr. Gagné continues: “ The program wants to get as close as possible to the reality experienced in an industrial environment. In addition to‘experiments, visits to‘companies, students will also have to complete an internship during their course. » This training will also be offered to French students from the electrotechnical BTS and wishing to follow a post-BTS course.
Students in this program are eligible for the Perspectives Québec and Parcours scholarships and could receive up to 31 $500 if the criteria established by the Ministère are met. All the details are available on the Cégep website.
