Apply to the African Union (AU) Civic Tech Fund for innovative Civic Tech initiatives. Indeed, the AU offers a skills building program for civic tech professionals in 7 African countries, including Morocco.
Again this year, the African Union is seeking innovative initiatives that use civic technology and digital engagement to facilitate inclusive public decision-making and strengthen democratic governance across Africa. Its ambition: to improve citizen participation through technology. For this, the African Union Civic Technology Fund (AUCTF), a German Cooperation-funded project that promotes the use of civic technology to amplify the voices of citizens, has opened applications for a scholarship program aimed at to civic technology professionals in Africa for a minimum period of 3 months. Nationals and citizens of 7 African countries are eligible. Besides Morocco, the other countries are Mali, Nigeria, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Kenya.
In addition to nationality requirements to be eligible, applicants must work to strengthen citizen engagement through the innovative use of data and digital technologies. They are also required to have at least three years’ experience in the field of civic tech, an understanding of the role of civil society and a good command of English. Knowledge of French is an asset. The program is a training and coaching opportunity for fellows.

Successful applicants will receive grants of between 10,000 and 32,000 euros each to launch or develop their projects. These grants can be used to develop a new project or to expand or adapt an ongoing initiative.
The Civic Tech Fund does not limit itself to financial support, but offers a capacity support program that will be designed and adapted to the specific needs of the selected initiatives. Support can include assistance from experienced technologists and data scientists, operational guidance, mentoring, and workshop sessions.
Thus, successful candidates will receive skills in the areas of cybersecurity, digital marketing and web development. They will work with partner organizations. They will help a wide range of actors scale up their civic technology initiatives that amplify the voice of citizens or help hold governments to account.
