Paris, January 24, 2023 – Ekinops (Euronext Paris – FR0011466069 – EKI), leading provider of telecom solutions for telecom operators and enterprises, launches its new PM_400FR05-C2A pluggable module in the field of Ekinops360 WDM optical transport systems. This new line card is Ekinops’ first coherent module based on 400G pluggable interfaces, offering coherent solutions that are more cost-effective and less power consuming than existing on-board high-performance optical technologies.
Since their debut in 2021, 400G pluggable transceivers have been rapidly adopted for use in communications networks. Although originally designed for short-range data center connectivity, newer versions are now being used by service providers for metropolitan and regional transit networks. According to market research firm Cignal AI, these transceivers will account for more than 20% of 100G+ bandwidth deployed in 2022, rising to 30% by 2024. ” 400G Pluggable Optics are revolutionizing the optical communications market by creating more flexible, cost-effective, and higher-performing networks for data centers and traditional telecom operators »explains Scott Wilkinson, senior analyst for optical components at Cignal AI. ” These performance and cost savings are a compelling argument for any operator considering networks based on pluggable coherent optical technology. »
Designed by Ekinops, the PM_400FR05-C2A offers multiple options for customers with four QSFP-28 ports that can support either 100GbE or OTU4 and one QSFP-DD interface for direct connection to 400GbE. The line interface is programmable from 100G to 400G. The PM_400FR05-C2A is fully interoperable with other third-party interfaces, allowing service providers to easily and cost-effectively connect switch/router ports together. While most 400G pluggable optics are limited to point-to-point connectivity, the PM_400FR05-C2A can be deployed in optical mesh networks, greatly expanding the scope of possible applications.
” LThe PM_400FR05-C2A provides a strict demarcation between service provider and customer networks, but also packet and optical networks, allowing it to fit seamlessly into the service provider’s operating model. » comments Guillaume Crenn, marketing director for optical transport at Ekinops.
While most switches and routers in the market cannot directly support a 400G transceiver, Ekinops’ approach allows customers to avoid infrastructure upgrade. Being compatible with all existing Ekinops chassis, customers avoid the cost of upgrading their routers, but also the cost of a new transport infrastructure, while benefiting from a smaller footprint, low power consumption and cost-effective pluggable solutions, all without performance degradation.
Another differentiator is the availability of an optional mode that boosts performance by more than 20% compared to standard performance. Advanced transmission technology developed by Ekinops delivers an optimized signal that can eliminate the need for additional amplifiers and regeneration points to further reduce overall network costs.
The PM_400FR05-C2A is already attracting the interest of many customers. It is currently in testing phase and its global availability will start on 01.01ah quarter of 2023.

Ekinops is a provider of open, reliable and innovative network connectivity solutions for service providers (telecom operators and enterprises) around the world.
Ekinops solutions, developed with high value-added software, enable the rapid and flexible deployment of new optical, broadband, high-speed transport services and enterprise services, particularly through network virtualization.
The solution and service portfolio consists of three perfectly complementary brands:
• Ekinops 360, for the needs of metropolitan, regional and long-distance optical transmission networks, based on two technologies: WDM for a simple, compact and integrated architecture; OTN for complex multi-vendor environments;
• OneAccess to offer a wide range of physical and virtualized deployment options for voice and data routing;
• Compose to define networks in software through a variety of management tools and services, including SixSq’s scalable SD-WAN Xpress solution and edge-to-cloud solutions.
As service providers adopt SDN (Software Defined Networking) and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) deployment models, Ekinops solutions enable them to seamlessly migrate to open and virtualized architectures.
Ekinops has a global organization and operates on four continents. Ekinops is listed on Euronext Paris.
