Engineers from the American computer giant Google have announced that software from an Italian company specializing in communications surveillance has been used to hack into smartphones to spy on users in Italy and Kazakhstan.
The problem concerns both phones running Android, Google’s operating system, and those running with its competitor iOS, developed by Apple, specialists specify in a note published Thursday, June 23, 2022.
They explained that the victims received a link to install malicious applications, which then make it possible to spy on their activity on their mobile or to extract documents. In some cases, hackers act with the complicity of internet providers, and the applications resemble those of the operators. Otherwise they pretend to be messengers, like WhatsApp, reports the west-france site.
