Japan develops the world’s first technology to take the temperature remotely by mouth

Health Technology

Tokyo-based WDS has introduced the world’s first technology to remotely take oral temperature. The device detects the inside of the mouth using a facial recognition system, calculates the average temperature there and displays it on the screen.

“If you want to get a precise figure, taking it by mouth is much better than by frontal way”, explains its CEO Yamada Hiroyuki.

Until then, it had always been difficult to determine the precise body temperature from a distance, because the measurement was influenced by the ambient temperature.

WDS hopes to put this technology at the service of hospitals and schools, among others.
