MLA technology for 1500 nits

As usual, the Japanese manufacturer uses the CES trade fair in Las Vegas to present its premium TV series. The same is therefore true in 2023 with the Oled Panasonic MZ2000 TV series.

Like the LZ2000 series of 2022, the MZ2000 has three references, the Panasonic TX-55MZ2000 (140 cm), the Panasonic TX-65MZ2000 (165 cm) and the Panasonic TX-77MZ2000 (196 cm).

Panasonic MZ2000, Master Oled Ultimate panels with MLA for a luminous peak at 1,500 nits

In fact, the first two models are the only ones to benefit from the new Master Oled Ultimate panels, made with the MLA (Micro Lenses Array) process see photo above) developed by LG Display also announced on certain diagonals of the LG G3 vintage 2023 (see our CES 23 News > LG G3 Oled TV, MLA technology for +70% peak light on 55”/65” and 77” panels). With the latter, Panasonic announces a luminous peak of 1,500 nits, as shown in the shot below, taken from the brand’s just-concluded press conference a few hours before the opening of the CES show in Las Vegas 2023. The panel of the 77-inch Master Oled Pro Cinema Size example remains identical to the 77LZ2000.

Panasonic MZ2000 Oled TV key specifications

Of course, Panasonic MZ2000 TVs offer all the features of last year’s LZ2000 models plus recent technical improvements made by in-house engineers to display an even more beautiful picture, in addition to the latest technologies of the hour with a particular focus on video games : Game Control Board function, optimization of the input lag for 60Hz gaming, HDR10 management), Dolby Vision also offers dynamic metadata (static at HDR10) depending on the displayed images for more accurate reproduction in low and strong light. Importantly, in order to enjoy Dolby Vision content, all links in the graphics chain must be Dolby Vision compatible, from calibration to display. sync compatibility).

The Panasonic MZ2000 TVs have the sound section of the LZ2000s, ie a soundbar with 16 networked front speakers (in series and grouped) connected to the side speakers and those in an up-firing configuration. Of course, the entire audio system of the Panasonic MZ2000 televisions was developed and configured by the engineers of the renowned company Hi‑Fi Technics, which belongs to Panasonic. New for 2023, a Bass Boost feature is available to boost bass impact.

HCX Pro AI processor

Panasonic MZ2000 TVs are equipped with the HCX Pro AI processor chip, whose algorithm is based on machine learning technology to adjust in real time (image analysis every second) the best parameters according to the content displayed. This machine learning process is coupled with a huge image database of more than a million video clips. Of course, the HCX Pro AI Processor chip also automatically acts on the sound delivered by Panasonic MZ2000 TVs, again fine-tuning the settings to the type of program being watched, Movie, Sports, etc.

Game Control Board

As mentioned, video games are another aspect that Panasonic pays special attention to with the Oled MZ2000 TVs. Of course, in addition to a minimum input lag of 1.5 ms for 60 Hz games (10.5 ms otherwise), we note the presence of two HDMI 2.1 connectors (plus two HDMI 2.0) compatible (s) VRR, ALLM and HFR 4K /120. Note that management of the eARC function is required.

HDR Dolby Vision IQ and Filmmaker mode

As a reminder, the purpose of the Dolby Vision IQ process offered by Dolby Laboratories is to always offer optimal picture quality in the presence of HDR Dolby Vision content, regardless of the ambient light conditions, without the need for remote viewing.

But also to adjust the TV picture settings as much as possible according to the real-time analysis of the content displayed. In the case of a snowy landscape (HDR10), for example, Dolby Vision also offers dynamic metadata (static for HDR10) for more precise reproduction in low and strong light, depending on the images displayed. Importantly, in order to enjoy Dolby Vision content, all links in the graphics chain must be Dolby Vision compatible, from calibration to display.

Namely, the Filmmaker mode option of the Panasonic MZ200 TVs is linked to the Intelligent Sensing process. The latter uses the brightness sensor of televisions to adapt the HDR playback to the light environment. More generally, and with the aim of always improving the quality of the image displayed, the MZ2000 televisions have an RGB sensor capable of adapting the color temperature displayed on the screen to the environment and no longer just affecting the brightness alone.

HDR10+, HDR HLG, HDR Dolby Vision and HDR Photo

Panasonic MZ2000 TVs, in addition to the already mentioned HDR10+ Adaptive, are of course compatible with HDR10+, HDR HLG and HDR10), Dolby Vision also offers dynamic metadata (static on HDR10) depending on the images displayed, for more accurate rendering in low and high lights. Importantly, in order to enjoy Dolby Vision content, all links in the graphics chain must be Dolby Vision compatible, from calibration to display.

Similarly, on Panasonic 2020 Oled TVs appeared the option to disable Tone Mapping (converting colors between an image with a wider dynamic range than that of the diffuser to avoid clipping or clipping) and set the TV’s clipping level via Die Menu is always appropriate. This allows content producers to take full advantage of the TV’s performance in this area, so that clipping is really taking place when the TV is at its maximum capability and not before. The result is a richer, more natural image.

CalMAN compatibility in the menu

Of course, Panasonic MZ2000 TVs also support CalMan PatternGen test patterns from CalMan Portrait Display software via AutoCal functionality. Another precision, the ISF certification and the LZ2000 models’ integrated 3D Lut (color conversion table) to adapt more quickly to the brightness change are still on the program for the MZ2000.

Compatibility with Dolby Atmos

Panasonic MZ2000 TVs always include an audio system with up-firing speakers called 360° Soundscape Pro to effectively reproduce Dolby Atmos soundtracks. to effectively reproduce Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Also, as mentioned above, these TVs always house side speakers to perfect the audio scene, especially the 3D sound bubble.

Smart TV My Home Screen 8.0, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integrated

The new Smart TV My Home Screen 8.0 function offers the option of personalizing the start screen (My Scenary option) with either photos or a video. Panasonic has partnered with LoungV Studio and Joy Foundation to provide high quality relaxation videos. Access to VOD and content is also facilitated by a redesigned graphical user interface based on icons representing the devices connected to the TV, as well as for the Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Apple TV+ and YouTube applications. Users can even add frequently watched TV channels right to the home screen.

And the dual Bluetooth connection allows two suitable devices to be connected at the same time. For example, it is possible to enjoy the television sound through two separate wireless headphones.

Finally, Panasonic MZ2000 TVs also integrate Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa (requires Google Home or Amazon Echo speakers), allowing voice control of the TV for essential functions.
