NVIDIA touts DLSS 3 performance, a tech exclusive to the new RTX 4000

Today, NVIDIA unveiled the new GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 graphics cards. Apart from promising a huge leap forward in performance, they’re also the first to use the new Ada Lovelace architecture, and that- ci features a number of significant improvements. These include, DLSS 3 technology, the next generation of Deep Learning Super Sampling from NVIDIA which promises to change the way games travel on your PC.

If you’re already familiar with how DLSS works, you know it’s a very useful tool. With that, you can significantly improve the graphical aspect of your game. Using artificial intelligence, DLSS is able to reconstruct the scene at a higher resolution. Thus, it allows other resources to be allocated to performance (FPS), while maintaining an equally stunning graphical appearance.

Unlike previous generations, NVIDIA claimed that DLSS 3 will be able to improve gaming performance up to 4 times. So, for example, you can play games in 4K resolution from 1080p.

NVIDIA demonstrates the performance it can achieve with DLSS 3, compared to previous generations

In a video uploaded to NVIDIA’s official YouTube channel, the company shows us how DLSS 3 works on Cyberpunk 2077. We have an example of a split screen, where the left section shows the performance we would get if DLSS was disabled, and the right section shows the potential of DLSS 2 and DLSS 3.
With DLSS disabled, the performance offered by Cyberpunk 2077 was less than 30 FPS. On the other hand, with DLSS 2 and Ray Tracing enabled, it was able to hit just over 60 FPS. Both results are a far cry from the astonishing 98 FPS the game achieved when DLSS 3 was enabled. in its graphics options and, of course, with Ray Tracing enabled.

Want to play DLSS 3 on your computer? You will need an RTX 4000 graphics card. The company has confirmed that this system will be exclusive to newer graphics cards, and hopefully future graphics cards will be able to take advantage of it as well.
It should be noted that other companies are also launching alternatives to DLSS. AMD is one of them, with FidelityFX Super Resolution, a very similar function and may also be compatible with other graphics cards. graphics cards not produced by AMD itself.

Other DLSS 3 improvements


In addition to improving graphics card performance, NVIDIA has confirmed that DLSS 3 also has a positive effect on processors. It can therefore improve CPU performance by 100%, and incorporates NVIDIA Reflex technology to reduce latency and increase responsiveness in games, which is important for competitive games.
Thanks to the function of generating multiple optical frames, DLSS 3 can generate new frames per second. According to NVIDIA, the new generation of pixels can be multiplied by a factor of 7 or 8, which improves gaming performance.
Optical Flow Accelerator is another feature of DLSS 3 that lets you track elements of scenes instead of just pixels. which allows the technology to have a better understanding of the graphic elements onscreen, such as shadows, which helps reduce interruptions when rendering.
NVIDIA also announced Shader Execution Reordering (SER), a technology that will allow allows dynamically reordering shader loads. As a result, they become more efficient, doubling the number of frames per second and increasing the number of frames per second in games by 25%.

Which titles will benefit from this new NVIDIA technology?

NVIDIA has already confirmed a number of games and graphics engines that will get DLSS 3 support. The list will continue to grow over time. So this is not the definitive list:
