An enclosure to prevent power outages rather than cure them
An EPFL spin-off, Zaphiro Technologies improves the resilience of electrical networks. Its technology is being tested in Lausanne.

Founded by Paolo Romano, Zaphiro develops a complete solution for real-time monitoring and management of electrical networks.

Producing renewable energies is good, but that is not everything. Because if the electrons reach the final consumer, it is through a network of which the general public is unaware. However, this is a key infrastructure on which society relies more and more, but which is undermined by the intermittence of renewable production. The introduction of so-called smart devices is part of the evolution necessary for this network. This is the area of activity of several companies and start-ups, including Zaphiro Technologies. An offshoot of EPFL, the latter is developing a complete real-time monitoring and management solution for electrical networks called SynchroGuard and, according to its customers, it is promising.
