Sound Motors has just signed a contract with The Reefer Group, international leader in the refrigerated bodywork market. As part of this collaboration, the two companies will build a first trailer with Chereau SASa French subsidiary of The Reefer Group, for extensive tests to thoroughly assess the technical and economic feasibility of integrating a specially adapted solar solution on a mass-produced vehicle.
Integrated solar technology consisting of automotive photovoltaic modules covering an area of 58.9 m2, will provide the trailer refrigeration unit with an additional 9.8 kW peak power. It will offer the possibility ofsave approximately 3,416 liters of fuel (up to 8,475 under optimum conditions) and will reduce local CO2 emissions by almost 9 tonnes per year per vehicle compared to diesel refrigerated trailers.
The first trailer will be unveiled at the IAA Transportation 2022 trade fair in Hannover. It will be followed by intensive field tests over several months by a Chereau customer in France.
